General Overview of the G503 Wiki Page

The purpose of this system is to function as a work-area for the development of a permanent record of documentation regarding the preservation and restoration of the World War 2 Military Jeep. Our goal is to collect detailed information on every part of the jeep, including tips on installation, originality and function, the differences between the manufacturers versions (i.e. GPW and MB), and make that information freely available to everyone.

The initial format will follow the categorization used in TM-10-1186 Master Parts List for Willys Trucks and Trailers by Willys-Overland Motors, Inc. Change Number 1, July 1, 1943, because that's the only parts list I have :) Hopefully others will add information that exists in other parts lists.

Note: One thing we would like to avoid here is providing information by linking to other websites that contain material that may or may not be under copyright. Unlike here, the general community most likely has no way to interact directly with offsite content, and therefore it probably does not represent the collective knowledge that we are trying to capture within the confines of this site. We should also not include material under copyright directly in the wiki pages themselves. Think of this site as an editing tool for a group of people who are collecting information to write a book. In fact, if this material becomes the collection of information that we are hoping it will be, we plan to distribute it (for free or at cost) in several different formats such as PDF, HTML, XML, CDROM and print, in order that it will be readily available to whomever is interested.
