4.0.2 Types of tires used on GPWs as delivered from the factory
The following chart, compiled by Lloyd White shows estimated tire allocation for GPW production from start of production thru end of production. Documentation uncovered by Jim Gilmore at the Ford factory archives indicates that during the period of January 1942 thru November 1942, GPW production consisted of 60% Ford tires and 40% Firestone.* Note: GPWs produced between 10/1 - 12/31 1944 did not include a spare tire, flap and tube. A total of 17,537 units were supplied with a spare rim only.**
* Note: The issue of what tires were used in actual production is definitely not resolved and would benefit from additional research and discussion. Factory photos exist of GPWs being produced in 1942 with goodyear tires (see photo sect 6.0.5)
