53.0.1 Combat rims, and hardware.

Combat rims and all hardware are painted OD. The combat rim WARNING plates were lightly brushed with white paint to hilite the tops of the letters or possibly painted solid white on some vehicles.

Lug Nuts are to be painted O.D. as specified by contract. Lug nuts on the left side of the vehicle are left-hand thread and should be stamped with the letter “L” on the face of the nut.

Combat rims originally used a steel beadlock which limited the amount of the tire tube stem that protruded from the rim. When the beadlock is omitted, the restorer should make sure that the stem does not extend too far.

Valve stem caps should be of the original type which had a knurled rim, and incorporated a tire valve removal “fork” in the top.
