7.0.3 Fuel tank & tank well
Fuel tanks used from start of production until approx. late September ‘42 used a small neck filler. This tank had part number FM-GPW-9002-A.
Fuel tanks built after September or early October had part number FM-GPW-9002-B. This tank had a large diameter cap with an extension and wire strainer that could be extended from inside the tank. This tank did not include an indentation on the right front side for PTO installation. With the change to the large cap style of tank, the drivers seat bottom pan was modified to include a larger cut-out.
The third type tank incorporated a fuel strainer assembly internally, in anticipation of the elimination of the firewall mounted filter. (GPWs were built with both filters installed for a time). These tanks were marked MDA 9002-C or OLACO in raised letters on the top surface, at the left-rear. This type tank incorporated the indentation for the PTO installation. Starting in early 1945, all tanks were marked OLACO.
