8.6.3 Gear shift and transfer case shifters
The Gear shift and transfer case shifters all used the same ball-shaped knobs. These were made of a brown/black hard rubber material which was not shiny. There was a ridge or rib protruding from the “equator” of the knob.
From the start of production until approx. mid-August 1942, rubber transmission and transfer case shifter boots were provided. By mid-September 1942, leather boots were supplied. This and other “rubber-shortage” changes, such as felt firewall grommets probably were all made around the same time, late summer 1942.
